Including Older Children in Your Woodstock Newborn Photography Session
I absolutely love toddlers! The goofier, the better. I just love their happy little spirits and how they feel everything BIG. All big feelings are very welcome in the studio. In fact, I adore including your older children in your Woodstock newborn photography session. They add such a special touch to an already precious session, and I love being able to document the new sibling bond for you.
If you’re worried about including your energetic toddler or curious about how it could possibly work, let me put your mind at ease and share what it looks like as well as some tips on how to prepare your toddler for the session.
Studio Newborn Photography Process
First, I want to take a quick step back and share more about how my full-service newborn photography process actually helps your toddler thrive during the session. This type of photography takes the pressure off mom by offering wardrobe for the entire family and hair and makeup for mom. Once your family arrives at the studio, I will have everything handled. Mom can take a load off and just soak in the moment. Mom feels relaxed and ready for the session, which helps her family feel this way too!
There are so many benefits to having your newborn portraits taken in the studio. The biggest benefit for your toddler is that they’re in a safe, welcoming environment without any distractions. They get to have fun and spend time with their family while I’m there snapping photos of every sweet moment. I love toddlers so much, and I love bringing out their sweet, silly smiles for photos!
How to Prep Your Toddler for the Newborn Session
1. Make The Session Seem like the MOST Fun - In the days leading up to the session, chat with your toddler about the session. Make it seem like they will have the most fun ever with their new best friend Rachael (and they will!). You can even “practice” taking their picture before the session.
Does your toddler not like having their picture taken or shy away when you take your phone out to take a photo? Please don’t worry; they might just thrive in the studio environment! Let me work my magic on the day of the session.
2. Choose a Time that Works for Them - Another benefit of the studio is we can schedule around your family rather than for the best lighting outside. If your toddler takes an afternoon nap, let’s schedule the session for the morning. Let me know any naptimes/quiet times so we can choose a time that works best for your whole family.
3. Let Go and Enjoy - Okay, this one is for you, Mom! I know every worry that you might have about how your toddler will handle this very important session. What if I told you that I’m almost certain I’ll be able to get your sweet toddler to cooperate and have fun capturing those magical portraits you’re hoping for? Rarely, I can’t! So, this is your permission just to let go and enjoy the session experience. You can trust me to handle it!
